Friday Favourites...In the Car

One of the features I'm going to do on this blog is "Friday Favourites" each week.  On Fridays.  For obvious reasons.  It's a chance to tell you about something I really like.  And you're always invited to share your favourite in that category, too.

Let me offer this disclaimer.  I'm not actually a huge fan of picking a favourite thing.  Superlatives aren't my spiritual gift. Don't ask me to tell you about my best day or my worst, the funniest moment in my life or the hardest.  I can't pick just ONE.

I hate excluding good things that have favourite status potential.  So, chances are, my Friday Favourite might be a few things in one category.

Now that we've got that sorted and explained...let's get on to today's Friday Favourites.

Friday Favourites...My Favourite Things to Listen to in the Car...with My Kids.

(Hello, long title)

In anticipation of gearing up to spend some long hours in the car with my family, I thought I'd share what we love to listen to.  (We like to kick-it old school by listening to cds.)

1. A Year With Frog and Toad

If I were to pick just one, this would be it.  Last year we watched the St. Albert Children's Theatre's production of this musical adaptation of the Frog and Toad books.  We all fell in love with the music and bought the Broadway soundtrack.  It's a good thing we all like it because it gets requested on almost every car ride.  Even our littlest little starts asking for "Toad" as soon as we buckle him into the carseat.  If you are familiar with the Frog and Toad stories, you might just enjoy singing along to this album.

2. Stuart Mclean

This one surprises me a bit.  My husband and I have loved listening to Stuart Mclean for a long time, but usually waited until the kids were napping to turn it on.  Lately, though, our six year old has started asking to listen to "the story cd."  I'm not sure she gets why we are laughing so hard, but she listens attentively to the stories.  (While most of the stories are very family friendly, you might want to preview them just in case).

3. Books

For an upcoming trip, we checked out a few books on cd from the library.  The list includes Little House on the Prairie, The Frog and Toad books, and...new for us...some Magic Tree House books.

4. If all else fails, we listen to Frozen.

Who doesn't, really?

What about you?  What do you love to listen to with your family in the car?
